Hello,
defining a vertical layout for BPMN pools is possible in the model editor and stays as attribute of a diagram. That's ok so far. But I always have to define it creating a new model.
I am looking for a way to define it more generally e.g. in a template.

Hi,
unfortunately there is no way to predefine the layout options globally as a user setting, model or template setting.
But it also should not be needed to change that setting for every new diagram, at least not for the same user.
When you change the layout direction in the the layout settings, which you find in the web modeller in the toolbar (model->layout; in the rich client, it is similar) - and you activate the checkbox 'Use as default', then the vertical model layout direction is saved in your user settings. And for each BPMN diagram, this is applied, even for new diagrams. The setting is only applied for diagram types sharing the same layout algorithm, which means that it is saved for all BPMN diagrams (enterprise, collaboration, process diagrams), but e.g. for the EPC it has its own set of layout settings.
Hope this helps - Best Regards
Sascha
Hi Sascha,
thank you for your replay. The parameter "vertical" is saved as you described, but if you create a new model you have to call the layout option one time again and click on OK and then the existing pool and all new pools are displayed vertically. There is no automatism.
Another "strange" thing: The vertical display only works if your pool has at least one lane or you have a lane with another lane included. If you have both in the diagram - a pool with no lane and a pool with one lane - then both are displayed vertically.
This all is not a show stopper, especially when you are the only modeller in the company. But if you want to ensure vertical BPMN modelling as company standard in a modeller team, it's a pity that there are no global settings.

Hello Klemens,
in order to facilitate a modeling convention for Connect Designer users we offer a read-only model as a template to copy/"paste with objects" in the repository view with
- the necessary properties (grid, connection appearance),
- CI/CD: Logo, placed model attributes (name, status grouped and formatted as a header),
- frequently used modeling patterns (like fragments in Aris Architect)
Using this template instead of creating models from scratch, all common display options are already set.
