Hi,

My organisation is considering purchasing the two ARIS products in the title of my thread and I have a couple of questions about them.

1. What are the advantages of purchasing Process Web as well as Business Publisher rather than just Business Publisher?

2. What are the key strengths of using Test Scenario Composer?

I am working on an SAP implementation using ARIS Business Architect but we are not using SAP Solution Manager as the link beween Design and Implementation.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,

regarding your second question:

We will offer in the next major release a functionality supporting process-based test case creation, enabling you to re-use already modeled business processes as test processes / cases.

The so-called "Test Composition Environment" will further support the creation of test processes, test case documents (including model graph) and synchronize those into Solution Manager for testing purposes.

Regards,

Josèphe

Hello,

ARIS Test Scenario Composer, an Advanced Solution of the CS-department of IDS Scheer in the Netherlands might be an excellent alternative for composing and maintaining test scenarios for 'dry' tests of your business blueprint and test plans for your business or model based functional acceptance tests.

I quote the ATSC flyer:

  • With ATSC you are be able to compose test paths in models and chain them to E2E test scenarios.

With ATSC you don’t compose test scenarios in test models with a random list of process steps, but ATSC test paths and scenarios are based on and stored within the process models. This garantuees optimal flexibility and consistency, within the ARIS methode.

  • ATSC has been used for a huge template project at an International Brewery in Amsterdam, with more than 190 test plans and will be used for the implementation projects in 8 different countries of which the first one is already started. The ATSC test plans of the template project have been re-used. The test data in the variant projects is automatically updated with build-in functionality in ATSC.

  • ATSC has a very intuitive user interface. “This is what you call user friendly, I needed 5 minutes to learn it.”

  • Test plans are maintainable in ATSC.

  • ATSC E2E test scenarios can be exported in ARIS as test models, ready to be synchronzied with SSM (only available in combination with ARIS for SAP).

  • ATSC E2E test scenarios with all related objects, inclusive risk and control information can be exported as Excel sheet to HP QC.

  • ATSC E2E test scenarios with all related objects, inclusive risk and control information can be exported to  Excel as test plans, complete with test paths in model graphics for manual testing.

  • ATSC has an export to an analysis report that offers insight in completeness and consistency of your testplans.

  • ATSC is the missing link between ARIS BPM and IT. “This is really a very important step forward”;

  • ATSC is an add-on on ARIS Business Architect and ARIS Business Designer. The SAP module of ARIS is not needed.

  • ATSC is available right now.

I do not know if I am referring to the same ProcessWeb. I am familiar with a ProcessWeb which has been developed for ARIS 7.0.2.

The biggest advantages of using this ProcessWeb, I think, are following:

  • Separation from ARIS structure. Easy navigation

Especially with large database it is difficult to navigate without losing the overview. With the ProcessWeb, especially the crumb path, it is easier to navigate through the process models. In the Business Publisher the structure in ARIS is used, which is not always structured properly.
  • MyRole functionality

Although a discussion has started to separate the MyRole functionality, this is one of the biggest advantages of ProcessWeb. When properly modeled, people who execute activities can easily have access to e.g. work instructions by selecting department and role.

The reason to ask to separate the MyRole functionality is that people who do the activities are not interested in the models, but need to know what to do at a certain moment. Other people, like business analysts, process managers and so on have a different view on processes.
  • Presentation as a tree

There is a possibility to show, e.g. your products or services, models not as a model but as a tree with text (like browsing in Explorer). When modeled properly you can build a tree of your applications, products, documents or services. This is very powerful.
  • Non ARIS terminology

In ProcessWeb you can use other terminology instead of ARIS terminology. People who are viewing the processes are not familiar with ARIS terminology. In that case, you can use your own business specific terminology which is familiar for your target viewer group.

So far, we had very positive reactions for the ProcessWeb. However, there is one big disadvantage: maintaining the configuration. A lot of effort is needed to configure the ProcessWeb properly. I hope this will improve in the future, because it is very complex to maintain.

Best regards,

Theo

Hi, I am hearing this ProcessWeb for the first time although I have been using Biz Publisher for sometime now..

Is there more information on it?... it sounds like something that i could use to make my ARIS content more user friendly for mgmt people.

The current Biz Publisher is too rigid and has little room for customisation.  And the Advanced search   has too many technical terms (eg. object types, attributes) that it discourages people from using it. I realise that we can't create our own search interface to query specific attributes.

I recently saw a demo of RocketSearch.. I think it helps some but I am not sure if it will solve my problems.

Anyone has a similar problem?...

thanks

Hello,

To tell you all advantages of the ProcessWeb would be too much, that is why I want  to give you, as Content Manager of the Advanced Solutions,  a quick glance at only one screen of the ProcessWeb: Adanced Search.

With Advanced Search we have tried to create search functionality that fits the mind of an employee who is not familiar with ARIS, but is just looking for a document of wants to have an overview of the systems that are used by his department. An employee who is not thinking in models or processes. We know from practise that our employee can find his way in the search screen of ProcessWeb.

But it is not only for this employee. We noticed that Advanced Search is very useful for business and IT analysts and modelers who work with ARIS as well. It is so simple to find all KPIs related direct or indirect (via a function) for a role or a department or a database domain or a combination of them. Or selected by text. Or to get an overview of all risks.

Advanced search is user friendly. That means that an user doesn't has to know the diacrits in names or attributes, that he doen't has to know double spaces in names, that he doesn't has to know in what attributes he has to search to or in what model or object types ( "Object types? What are object types?"). Usually an user wants to search in documents that are related to him, his role or his department and not in all documents of the whole organisation.

Well, see the image below of an Advanced Search screen of one of the ProcessWeb of an International Bank in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

  1. You can configure the items an user will go through, for example 'EPCs', 'VACDs', 'Information Cariers'...... (no, no, no, that's not what you want), or 'Processes and Activities' (a combination of all process model types and functions), 'Forms' (information caries with a 'form' symbol), 'Work instructions' (information cariers with an other symbol, maybe inclusive the content of linked documents), etc, etc.
  2. An user can enter text, without wondering whether text contains double spaces or diacrits, or which attribute  must be used. He can select whether all words of the search text must be found, or at least one or whether the results must fit exactly the input. Search is always with wild charachters.
  3. An user can reduce search results to a role, department and/or database domain (e.g. domain financial processes).

The search engine looks for direct relations, indirect relations via functions, relations that fit roles in a department or the department itself, and to models in ARIS-folders that are part of a database domain or a model assigment hierarchy. It is up to you how this must be configured and of course we will do this for you as part of the ProcessWeb implementation.
  4. An user can click on a search result to get information in....
  5. ... the Object or Model Information Page, that can be configured with all kind of information you want.

Maybe it is good to know that ProcessWeb is an adaption of and an add-on on the Business Publisher.

For more information you can contact Menno Bernard, Manager Aris Advanced Solutions in the Netherlands  ( blocked::mailto:menno.bernard@ids-scheer.com" href="mailto:menno.bernard@ids-scheer.com" jquery1249724150390="56">menno.bernard@ids-scheer.com)

I hope that this informaton will be helpfull for you as well.

Best regards,

Ariene M. Kroeze

Hi Ariene, thanks for the info..

Is this a new product?. Why is this not listed in the IDS Scheer's product page?

thanks

ARIS ProcessWeb is an add-on for ARIS Business Publisher. It is developed by the Customized Solutions team of IDS Scheer Netherlands and it’s NOT part of the ARIS Platform.

The idea behind this development is that ARIS Business Publisher is too much ARIS for the target groups of our customers. Although these groups are interested in the ARIS content, they expect a way of presentation, that is more familiar with the way they are used to.

With ARIS ProcessWeb it is for instance possible to publish ARIS content in text or tables instead of graphs. It all depends on the tartget groups and the requirements of our customer.  One of the main features is the Role-based filter; by selecting your role or position within the organization, you get an overview of all processes, activities, documents which are related to your role or position. ProcessWeb is highly configurable.
