Hello Mazmee,
here is a link with an overview description of the import wizard: http://www.ariscommunity.com/users/thaase/2010-03-08-features-en-detail-microsoft-visio-import
Although it's quite old and dates back to ARIS 7.x the functionality is essentially still the same.
Consider that Visio contains diagrams with shapes, while ARIS contains models with objects. So you have to invest a little in the configuration of the import, depending on what your Visio diagrams look like, which shapes were used and what ARIS model types you want to import to. You also have to give some thought on the semantics of the connections between the shapes and map to according ARIS connection types.
If you have very few Visio diagrams it may be more efficient to re-model them in ARIS. If you have many of them in good quality it may be worth trying. Probably it would be a good idea to check if your Visio diagrams would be conformant to your ARIS modelling conventions after import. Otherwise it is not worth the hassle, if you need to re-model them anyway. Pro: At least you get a library of objects you can use in modelling, but it may contain duplicates you may want to consolidate first.
I Hope this helps.
EAComposer is an EA tool for enterprise architecture using TOGAF that was built from scratch. Designed with the help of architects with many years of TOGAF experience. The aim was to keep it practical & usable
EAComposter seems to be a really bad product to me. Though its makers likely -- or why are they force to offer it here -- cannot even afford to run their own forum.
Well, yes there are a lot of TOGAF tools on the market. But that one promoted here is -- as far as I remember correctly -- listed in the recent Gartner report on EA tools. Both ARIS and ALFABET are!
