Working on customer questions I was reminded of a older post by Thomas that still is very valid on DIN ISO 31.000 (see here)
And of a very nice analogy he brought up on the topic what process orientation is for risk management activities: "The benefit of our process-based approach to managing risk is best explained using a analogy by Dennis Dickstein on firefighters and fire marshals: whereas the firefighter works very hard to put out fires, to stop fires from spreading and to reduce the number of people and property hurt by the fire, the fire marshal is responsible for the investigation and prevention of future fires."
Fires will always happen and firefighters hence will always be needed. Process orientation will help to have them at the right time at the right place. The true strength of process orientation for risk management however is in ensuring development of fire marshals.
In other words, a BPE approach will provide method and tools needed to perform effective and efficient risk and compliance management across the organization and to investigate your business processes to prevent future incidents.
Thanks Thomas, for the reminder!
And as always I appreciate any ideas and comments ..
