Just wondering if it is possible to model requirements and risks with EPCs?
The background is that we are currently comparing EPCs with SysML, and the latter seems to be suitable for that due to its requirements and parametric diagram types.

Hi Patrick,
yes it is possible o model requirements and risks with EPCs.
The questions I would ask to decide if EPC or SysML is the better choice are
What are your requirements?
- now
- in 5 years
- in 10 years
EPC is a notation originally developed by Prof. Scheer et al. The advantage of this notation is, it represent the business department viewpoint.
SysML like BPMN 2.x as UML profiles represent the technical viepoint. Going SysML you are going UML. UML provides you via profiles with a virtually unlimited expression power. But also with a steep learning curve.
If you (will) require that expression power take SysML.
If the business department viewpoint is sufficient take EPC.
If you are in between ...

Hello Carsten,
Thanks very much for your response!
Are there any papers or examples that you are aware of on how requirements/risk modelling could be done with EPCs? In SysML this seems quite natural since a dedicated requirements diagram type exists, but I haven't found any resources so far on how this could be achieved with EPCs.

Hi Patrick,
no, I am not aware of any sample on how to do requirements/risk modeling with EPCs.
But as you have set Germany as location, I presume you know the German language. So I give you the link on the original and IMO best descrption on EPCs.

BTW, SysML does not provide you with a risk element out of the box. But being an UML profile you can extend the SysML profile with a risk element.
