Dear all,
I am currently modelling with ARIS Business Architect 7.1. using the Business Process Diagram. I am logged with the entire method but I still experience some difficulty in finding all the necessary elements. For example, I don't see any loop, compensation, ad-hoc, multiple instance sub processes. I can just use the colapsed and expanded sub process. The same problem relates to tasks. I cannot add any loop, multiple instance or compensation tasks to my symbols. Why and how can I solve this?
Another question relating to the BPMN attributes. I am able to define for my tasks and processes some BPMN attributes, but those are not supported graphically by changing the symbol of a e.g. normal process to ad hoc process ("~"). Why?
Very last question, how can I create completey new attributes, for example "process goal", "process input", etc. I just see a list of predefined attributes, but I couldn't figure out how to create ones from scratch?
Thanks a lot in advance,
Nadja Petrova
Hi Nadja,
loops, multiple instances etc. are not handled as own symbols in the symbol bar. Instead, you have to place an activity and change the BPMN attributes of this activity. It is strange that you don't see any visualisation of the attributes you choose. Are you maybe running an old version of ARIS Business 7.1? Can you please check that?
Hi Sebastian,
I just deinstalled and reinstalled ARIS Business Architect 7.1 from the IDS Scheer FTP server which was sent to me by your support. So now I run the version 7.1.0.478722.
Anyway, still not quite properly working (although improved compared to last time). I experience the following problems:
1) I click on a task and go to the BPMN attributes => Tasks. There I can only select unted Task Type the following values: Send, receive, service, user, script, abstract, manual. There is a separate field compensation activity, implementation, etc. But no loop values, ad hoc, multiple instances for the tasks?!?
2) I click on a sub process and go to the BPMN attributes => Sub process. This time I AM able to see the visualisation of the ad hoc and compensation attributes, but still neither any loops nor any multiple instances values can be selected?!?
Any advice?
Thanks for you help, I appreciate it!
Best regards, Nadja
Hi Sebastian,
I seriously don't know what the problem is. I don't have any loop attribute types. I attached 2 screenshots for the tasks and sub processes, so that you can see the options I have. Please see below.
I am logged with the entire method. What else could be the problem? Or should I contact ARIS support better.
I am also not able to define default sequence flows, display text for message events. Are those two supported as well visually? O dear!
Thanks,
Hi Sebastian,
my understanding until now was that ARIS supports only BPMN 1.x. I don't see any BPMN 1.0 or BPMN 2.0 attributes in my list. I use the Business Process Diagrams. What setting is missing? I think I am doing sth really wrong here. How come I just have BPMN attributes and you have BPMN 1.0 and BPMN 2.0 attributes? I thought I have the latest version of the ARIS platform.
By the way, do you think we can schedule a call with you and Ivan Markovic from SAP CEC Research regarding this whole topic? I think it will take less time to clarify that than in the forum. Ivan suggested that actually.
If yes, please confirm. I have your email, so I can send out an Outlook invitation.
Thanks,Nadja
Not sure, but it could only be that you are either not using Entire Method or not the latest ARIS version even though you installed it.
Phone call: Please contact our support hotline, because I guess your company got a support contract. I'm sorry, but I can't handle any individual calls or emails. That's just too much for a single person...
