I am currently writing my bachelor thesis on the topic of process modeling tools. Aris Express is used at the university for teaching puroses. My professor told me that Aris will no longer be updated. Is that true? As part of my work, I am supposed to look for an alternative. But if aris continues to be updated, we can also stay with this tool.

Hello Nadja,
the free of charge version ARIS Express is a frozen version where only technical updates are made as far as necessary. This is fully sufficient learning BPMN because the standard of BPMN version 2.02 is also very stable.
But for universities there is a special offer for students and faculties using the commercial version ARIS Advanced in the cloud as "Education package" (see https://ariscommunity.com/education). This is also free and the complete power of a BPM tool (different model types, repository, customizations etc.) is available.
