Hello everyone,
We know that Aris has its own Document Management System (DMS), ARIS Document Storage and we saw that it is doing its work very well.
We would like to know how can we connect Aris with an external DMS. The external system is a custom made system.
After some thought and search in the community, we found the below ways to achieve the above:
- use a link (if available) to the document in the external DMS and assign this link as an attachment to an Aris model, object etc.
- use some kind of DMS adapter, that Aris provides to connect with the external DMS (https://www.ariscommunity.com/users/erimos81/2015-04-22-aris-dms)
Is there other ways to achieve the connection described?
Thanks in advance,
Paris.
Hi,
I recently answered a similar question: https://www.ariscommunity.com/comment/27148#comment-27148
Bottom line: If you want to link to external sources the classical way is to use the attribute types "Link 1" and "Title 1" (or 2, 3, 4). Typically you use them on the "Information carrier" object type (a multitude of symbols is available for that object type, the most prominent one for this use-case is "Document"). The information carrier object becomes the central representative of the document in your repository. It will be the single place where you maintain the link to the document in your DMS. Then you use occurrences of the object in your models where-ever you want to refer to that document.
The same principle applies when you use ARIS document storage as your DMS. In that case there are different attribute types "ARIS document storage link 1" (2, 3, 4) which support selecting resources from ADS and uploading documents to ADS.
There is an adapter for Microsoft Sharepoint (TM) available by which Sharepoint becomes an additional storage backend for ADS and you use it the same way as ADS.
