Hello everyone

I'm asking this because I haven't found it anywhere else. I've done my research in both the documentation as well as in the forums.

Is there a way to backup the model databases from the ARIS Architect client automatically? The idea is scheduling any kind of job that allows us to backup these databases automatically without any administrator intervention.

Is it possible to confirm whether is possible or not?

Thank you very much for your assistance

Regards

Pedro.

Dear Pedro,

Why would you want to use ARIS Achitect to regularly backup an ARIS database?

We don't offer anything like that in that end-user tool. You could try to create a scheduled ARIS report script which executes a database backup. However, I don't know whether the ARIS Report Script API offers such a function.

I recommend one of these options:

  1. Use ARIS Server Administrator which can be called either as EXE file (without its interactive mode) or as BAT file, and use Windows' Task Scheduler to call that EXE or BAT by another batch script to create your database backups planned and automatically.

  2. Use ARIS Cloud Controller (BAT file) with the same scheduling mechanism as in option 1.

  3. Use ARIS Tenant Management (http://localhost/tm) and schedule a tenant backup there. A tenant backup includes the ARIS databases and all other ARIS data (user configuration, licensing, documents, workflows, report scripts, filters, templates etc.).

Cheers

Rune

Thank you for your answer, Rune.

Neither option 1 or 2 is feasible because we don't have the ARIS Server Administrator installed as of yet (I've checked the download website and only files for 10.6 are available. At this moment we use 10.2)

Actually I was asking a way to automate these kind of backups. I mean, local database backups as seen in this image:

I'm not sure that using Tenant Management would help us back up these databases because at this time, these are the only participants I'm able to back up (so I can't see any chances to backup the databases this way).

That said, is there any way to address this?

Again, thank you so much for your assistance

Kind regards

Pedro.

Dear Pedro,

As ARIS Architect is a client product, we don't offer automation tasks.

Even on a pure ARIS Connect Server or ARIS Design Server installation you can find ARIS Server Administrator as batch file in folder C:\SoftwareAG\ARIS10.0\server\bin\work\work_abs_m\tools\arisadm.

The command sequence for a database backup is as follows. First, connect to your server (replace localhost with your server name, and likewise tenant name, and password of user account system):

server localhost default system manager

Then backup the database to your preferred folder:

backup "Base de datos" C:\temp

And ARIS Tenant Management seems not yet configured properly on your server. It requires certain functional privileges to get access to all tenant data.

Cheers

Finally I managed to perform a daily tenant backup so I will make sure that the databases are backed up as well.

Thank you so much for your help, Rune.

Have a nice day

Pedro
