Dear Peer,
Officially ARIS supports its own embedded PostGreSQL and as external DBMS Oracle and MS SQL Server.
What advantage do you expect when running ARIS on another PostGreSQL?
Cheers

Hi Rune,
thanks for answering. Actually it leads to rather different questions.
Firstly, how can i analyse the locale/embedded PostGreSQL, so i don't have to use the ARIS reports to work on the database? I don't really know who to connect to the embedded PostGreSQL to work with other reporting tools.
Same question to external DBMS Oracle or MS SQL Server.
Do you have any recommendations?
Thirdly, I'm a student and using the university license. Do i mandatory need a ARIS Connect/Design/etc. Server. Or can i connect ARIS on one of the external options (DBMS Oracle or MS SQL Server)
Greetings
Peer
Dear Peer,
I strongly recommend to use the official interfaces to access/extract ARIS data:
Bypassing ARIS for directly accessing its persistence layer could easily lead into consistency issues when changing data, or to data access conflicts when ARIS runs in parallel to the external DBMS access. Therefore, a direct access to its DBMS is not supported.
Please post in the forum http://www.ariscommunity.com/forums/university-relations to get support on the restrictions of our educational packages.
Cheers
Rune
Hey Rune,
thank you very much again for your answer. This makes kind of sense, since i heard that ARIS is saving the data pretty much confusing. So, for example for the embedded PostGreSQL, i can not use any tool to send SQL queries to the DBMS?
If that is not possible, what do you recommend to combine ARIS Report output with other documents from word, excel, visio etc., so i can create one new document with all these information merged?
Thank for helping!
