I evaluated ARIS Express 2.4 and compared it with the open source community editions of Modelio 3.0 and Bonita BPM Studio. My findings:
I really have to say ARIS Express 2.4 is a very nice tool to draw BPMN2 workflows. Compared to Modelio 3.0 and Bonita BPM Studio 6.2 it offers better drawing capabilities. The pool and lane handling of ARIS Express 2.4 is neat. I also like the IMO very convenient way to position attributes. All in all a good tool to create awesome diagrams.
The modeling features are IMHO very, very limited. Maybe, it is me. But I did not even got guards defined on sequence flows. Even Modelio offers much better modeling capabilities. The best tool I am aware of to model processes using BPMN2 notation is Bonita BPM Studio. Bonita BPM Studio is designed to develop, debug and simulate/run processes. Consequently the modeling features are far beyond BPMN2 (data, user roles, ...).
What is your experience?
Hi,
thank your for sharing your experience with us. I just wanted to point out, that ARIS Express does not provide the full blown feature palette of the professional tools, nor does it provide all functionalities for BPMN model like e.g. ARIS 9.5 does.
Please have a look here for more information about all possibilities with professional ARIS products.
Bye,
Frank

That is exactly why I compared ARIS Express to the open source community editions of Modelio 3.0 and Bonita BPM Studio 6.2.
- both products can be used free of charge,
- both products are stripped down editions of commercial counterparts and
- both products are pure Java multi platform tools.
An IMO fair comparison.
But, if you provide me a 30 day evaluation licence of ARIS 9.5 free of charge. I will try it.
