Hi All,

Does anyone know if it is possible to insert an image in a process model in ARIS?

I would like to show it in a visual way that some Process roles work in the IT system A, while other roles conduct their activities in the IT system B. I thought about adding the logo of the relevant software next to the Process Role object, but I don't know if this is possible. Does anyone have experience with this or any good suggestion?

Thank you in advance!

Hello Rita,

welcome to ariscommunity.

It is not a property of the role that it is working with system A. Rather that is a result of your modelling that role X performs process steps 1, 4, and 7 where systems A, B and C are used. So the typical way to find out about this would be a report, using highlighting or a query (if you are using the Java clients). You can configure such a report using the WYSIWYG report editor.

Decorating objects like application systems with their product logo is not so easy, because you usually do not have a defined set of applications but it may grow or shrink over time. Normally this is not considered worth the hassle. One way would be creating mini-symbols for the value types of a custom value attribute type. Then each application would get this attribute type and you would have to set the correct value. Essentially this would become a redundant information to the Name attribute of the application. As soon as you introduce a new application you would have to go importing the new application logo and extending the custom value attribute with a new value type. This would always involve the people administrating the method and could not be done by the modellers themselves.

In essence, I would discourage this idea. For modelling it is more important to understand the model structure, which you can recognize best by application systems having the same symbol while process steps and roles have their own symbols respectively. Also consider that only very few (though important) applications actually have a logo of their own. Most of your applications are the small ones you create in your business every day like some cost calculation spread-sheets, travel approval, annual leave plan... where you don't bother to create logos.

Dear M. Zschuckelt

Thank you for responding to my question and for the advise.

Normally I would not consider adding logos or images to represent the system. But I am trying to find a way to help stakeholders understand (in a quick and easy way) in which system an activity is performed because we are moving to a new system but not all activities are to be performed in it (some will remain in the old system). I hope they won't be too confused in the period following the new system go-live. :-) But I think we will have to focus mostly on making sure that instructions and training cover it.

Thank you also for welcoming me here. I am a new ARIS user & modeler and I am trying to learn best practices and good ideas from this community.

Cheers

Rita
