Visio map conversion to ARIS

Hi Rupesh - we had the same problem and had a customised import script built (at cost) by IDS UK. You could look into similar. The solution is good but not perfect (i.e. some remodelling is still required) and is reliant on the source material being good and consistent.

Otherwise I am not aware of any other option (after extensive querying...)

Yes, you can export and re-import but I have often found the effort outweighing the benefits. We have found this will several aspects of ARIS i.e. it is technically feasible, and supposedly stratightforward, but the practicality is somewhat lacking. This also applies to the documentation you mention. I oftern find things but accident rather than design.

I believe you can find the APIs and field names from the admin module in the object folder.

In terms of Rupesh's question, he is looking for an initial import solution.

It is possible to export Visio content (Text, attributes etc.) into a Excel format. (in Visio - check Tools/Report - you can even specify the fields you want to export).  That can  "in theory" be loaded into Aris using the import template. It can also be loaded into ArisEx via Import Object or SmartDesign.

However that export would miss any info about connections (links) between shapes. At least it gets the text across.

However the details of how to configure the import seem rather obscure/well hidden in Aris docs. Any hints???

I have built an approach in Visio to export information about the connections into an Access db. At the moment I am trying to find the documentation in Aris about APIs and Field Names so I can generate the table to match the import spec.  I find it odd that anyone evaluating ARIS can't get such docs easily!
