Hi,

Is there any information about some kind of Reference Model for Business Process Architecture and Business Process Management in ARIS?

Thanks!

Hi Samat,

Have you checked out the demo content of the UMG database?
Other than that, I remember that Scheer has some pre-designed process models you could buy or APQC also offers some pre-designed content. I assume that also Software AG has templates available.

Best,

Veronika

Hi Samat,

what kind of architecture?

  1. Enterprise Architecture,
  2. Software Architecture,
  3. System Architecture or
  4. else houses, streets, ...

In the case it is Enterprise Architecture I recommend you to study

If it is Software or System related

I think discussions on more specific processes to model software or systems is out of the scope of this forum. But if you want to discuss on that, please feel free to contact me LinkedIn.

/Carsten

Hi Carsten,

Thank you for your reply. The question is specifically about processes of Business Process Architecture and Business Process Management.

Hi Samat,

Can you please specify what you want to achieve? As said by Veronika you can use the United Motors Group content/database. Next to that, for ARIS we also have content packages (free/paid) available including best practices, blueprints, frameworks and predefined content. See below the existing packages:

  • Process library for ISO 90001
  • E-TOM business process framework
  • Facility management, HR, Finance and controlling pre-defined content
  • ITSM (ITIL v4+ISO 20000) content
  • +20 performance-ready industry content
  • Togaf 9.2 framework

If you have any interest in one of the above packages, let me know!

Best regards,

Rim

Hi Rim,

Thank you for information about packeges. Can you please provide information how to download them?

As it was specified above my question was about the process of business process management.

For example how should the process (procedure) of business process modeling in ARIS look like? What steps (tasks, actions), roles, etc. are there? What about object library creation and maintenance, architecture artifacts creation and maintenance and etc.?

Hi Samat,

I think that there is no pre-defined process for that because that depends highly on your internal structure. Like, at my current employer, we have a decentralized approach where I train my colleauges and they then do the modelleling, etc. However, at my previous employer, I was in a BPM department where the BPM team did the modelling for the "business". Of course, you could also do a mix.

With respect to the repository, inexperienced staff can create whatever they need. They don't have to check the repository. I don't want them to get frustrated. Afterwards, we check the process together and then I consolidate the objects. More experienced users are requested to check the repository first.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Veronika

Hi Veronika,

Thank you for your reply.

I agree with you that there maybe no pre-defined process for business process management. Books like the "Rob Davis Business Process Modelling with ARIS: A Practical Guide" gives good clarity on process capture, desing, verification with ARIS, yet they doesn't contain clear processes.

Should the process model depend on internal structure (central/local modelling aproach), since functions and roles such as "create process model" and "modeller" are not changing and only positions and orginazational units such as BPM department and "business" departments, that are not objects presented on process model, are changing?

Hi Samat,

I guess it depends a bit on the purpose. I would say, if you have the freedom to "create-the-future", then I would not make BPM dependent on organizational structures but make it dependent on the actual process flow.

With that I mean, I would use roles instead of positions and org-units. In some cases these can be the same but they don't have to be. That approach makes you more flexible when your org-structure changes. In many cases, the underlying processes remain the same and you don't want to check & edit each and every process.

Best,

Veronika

The "process of business process management" is supported by PRIME, a Software AG-owned collection of assets (best practices, templates, guides, methods, tools) to support the implementation of Software AG products and solutions.

Please contact your Software AG sales representative to check how you benefit from our procedural approach:
