Dear Community,

I am having the following error message while connecting to the Local Server of ABA:

When opening the Local Server the 'Start' pop up is displayed normally with the 'Starting standard database system...' but it takes longer than usual and finally displays the above pop up.

Has anyone come across the same issue?

Thanks for sharing possible solution.

Cheers

Hello Shameem,

some other community members had similar problems but never posted a solution, so it might be worth to ask IDS support.

Do the log files give a hint?

  • Local server:  %arishome71%\LocalServer\log\
  • Toolset: %arishome71%\log\
  • BArchitect: %userprofile%\ARIS71\log\

Possible reasons I can remember:

  1. Windows version?

Vista or Windows 7 are not best friends of Aris when it comes to user privileges (UAC) and starting services.
  2. Has your workstation run out of memory or CPU resources (s. Task Manager)?

Please see Aris Installation & Admin guide on how to reconfigure Local Server:

    a) to prevent startup of simusrv component (if you do not use Simulation)

    b) to grant more memory for the Java RE
  3. Does it occur right after installation?

Then check the file (on WinXP) C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\services for the necessary tcp ports named aris71_* from 16070/tcp through 16080/tcp
  4. Is there a local firewall blocking these ports ?

Hope this helps, Martin

Hello Martin,

Thanks for your reply.

After enquiry, I came to know that for some reasons some files in the installation folder were missing. So what I did was to insert the installation CD and used the repair option.

It worked just fine afterwards and I could recover the DB found on the local server too.

I've also reported the problem to ARIS Global Support and they told me same thing about the missing file. They said I have 2 options:

1. Use the repair option from installation CD

or

2.  QUOTE

Alternativly I suggest to deactivate the report server, mentioned in the manual:

5.3.4.9  Deactivate Report Server

The Report Server is running by default. If you do not want to start any VB scripts on ARIS Business Server, you can deactivate the Report Server. As a result, fewer system resources are needed and system performance improves. You can always run VB scripts locally.

1.  To do this, open the file <ARIS installation directory>\server\config\userServerSettings.cfg with a text editor.

2.  Insert the following:

                 <reportserver active="false" />

3. Save the file, and restart ARIS Business Server. The Report Server is no longer running. Therefore, more resources are available for ARIS Business Server.

I'm posting this here and hope that it can be useful to other Community members :)

Thanks again for your reply.

Cheers
