Hi everyone,
I need a simple BPMN Process Diagram, but I have trouble placing the Lane symbol (although it is available in the Symbols Pane, I just cannot drop it in my process).
Any idea where the trick is to be able to introduce the Lane in BPMN Process diagram? And yes - I know I can have the same result in the collaboration diagram but still...
I am using ARIS 9.7 if relevant.
Thank you in advance,
Silviya
Change the subprocess to a call. The called process with technically be an independent process referenced by your process, but you can add lanes to the called process.
Before you do that though ask yourself why you need lanes in the sub process and how much detail is relevant. Often my team winds up in these situations because they want to add details that aren't meant for a business process model. Instead I have they model that sub-process as lower level model or re-evaluate the role to discover why this is happening.
WE use BPMN Collaboration diagrams across the board (not a mix of Collaboration and Process Diagrams). This keeps things simple and flexible in case you later need to ellaborate your model with Participants (Pools) and Lanes.
I don't understand the comment from Patrick S about Lanes in sub-processes. Sub-processes are a great way of providing re-usable processes that may well span multiple roles (hence multiple lanes).
Heck - go all out and even look at the use of nested Lanes!
