Hi!
Due to new requests we will have to update Object-Attributes once a month; we're talking about 500 objects here. We get the input in Excel from other systems. For now, we would do it manually, but in the forseeable future it should be automated.
Those are the methods, I'm already aware of:
- Attribute Assistant - this is not possible here, since the changes are individual to each object
- Workaround by using the translation-reports - this is rather uncomfortabel due to the sorting of these reports
- Creating new objects in bulk and then consolidating them with the existing objects, overwriting old attribute content - I'm not really happy with this either since it bears a high possibility of errors with severe consequences (eg. we must not change GUID of those objects under any circumstances)
Did I miss something here? Do you have any other suggestions? I already searched in the community here but did not find suitable results.
We are working with ARIS Architect 10 but also use ARIS Connect.
Thank you so much!
Best regards,
Sonja

Hi,
There is potentially another way using spreadsheets; but this depends on the number of definition copies you need to update. I believe the number of lines in a spreadsheet is somewhat limited. But you could use the if formula in combination with the write formula in spreadsheets. I've done that in the past for smaller changes and it worked well.
However, if you have bigger data sets, I would use a custom script which allows you to be also more flexible.
Alternatively, (I assume people fill out an Excel spreadsheet with the data that you want to import) people (who have a viewer license) could also be granted with contribution rights and directly enter the "new" values in the tool; this is how we are doing it today and it is by far our preferred approach.
Hope I was able to give you some additional brain food :D
Best,
Veronika
