As described here, ARIS Community members can add each other as a contact in order to exchange messages. To add someone as a contact, you have to visit the user profile. You get to the user profile by clicking the user’s name in case the user posted an article or comment on ARIS Community. However, how do you get to a user profile if the user has not posted something yet?

Accessing member search

Since some days, we also got a member search. You can search for ARIS Community members by last name, first name, organisation or a combination of them. To access member search, click the link "Search Members" in the navigation box in the right sidebar.

Search criteria and search results

A new page is shown, where you can enter your search criteria. The search is case-insensitive meaning that you will get the same results if you search for "IDS Scheer" or "ids scheer". In addition, the search finds substrings. For example, if you search for "ids scheer" as organisation, you will also find people who got "IDS Scheer UK". This is also the case for first and last names.

All search results are listed as a table. This table is limited to 10 entries. If the person you are looking for is not included, refine your search criteria.

Excluding yourself from member search

Some of you might not be interested to be found by a member search. In general, we do not encourage people to exclude themselves from member search, but in the end it is your decision. If you want to exclude yourself from member search, edit your user profile. You can edit your user profile by clicking on the "Edit Your Profile" link the navigation box.

All privacy settings are available on the "Privacy Settings" tab as shown below.

settings to disable own profile being part of member search

If you deselect the checkbox marked red in the screenshot above, you are immediately removed from member search. You can get back into member search by visiting the privacy settings page and setting the checkbox again. By default, all new ARIS Community members appear in member search.

Note: External search engines such as Google and Yahoo are neither able to access the member search functionality nor user profiles. This functionality is only available to registered ARIS Community members.

We hope member search makes it easier for you to get in touch with fellows and colleagues while at the same time providing enough privacy protection in case you wish so.
