How To - Upgrade from 9.7 to 9.8 !!

Are you asking for updating an ARIS installation made by a setup of ARIS Design/Connect Server?

Then it's pretty simple: The setup does the update.

In case of a distributed ARIS installations, spanning several computers/VMs, then you should refer to the ARIS 9.8 SR4 Update Cookbook.pdf, located on the ARIS DVD in folder .\Documents\English. It describes manual updates procedures, including when an external DBMS is being used instead of the built-in PostgreSQL.

From the names I guess you are still installing by setup:

• Aris_Database = DBMS, either Oracle or MS SQL
• Aris_Designer = ARIS Design Server (can/should be installed by its setup)
• Aris_Designer = ARIS Publisher Server (can/should be installed by its setup)

Are my assumptions right?

A distributed ARIS installation is something different. It means when ARIS Design/Connect Server is installed across several computers to provide a better performance for a large number of users. This can NOT be done by the provided setups on the ARIS DVD, but is a manual process of distributing specific sets of ARIS compoments of ARIS Design/Connect Server.

For more details please read the first few chapters of the ARIS Update Cookbook. Software AG offers a 3-days training course to learn the skills needed for such distributed installations.

Please check the available training offerings on http://www.softwareag.com/training. But as for the installlation training course which spans 3 days, I doubt that we would offer that as a remote training.

Could we change the demo scenario to medium later in connect/publisher server? And how about the standard db to sql server  ? Do we have documentation here

I don't recommend to switch the DBMS later for an existing ARIS installation. That costs lots of extra efforts for data migration.
