I'm not certain if this is a bug or not...but yesterday I created a heap of organisation charts using smartdesign. I saved, exited & came back later to work on them without issue. Worked perfectly every time
Today, however, I don't seem to have the smartdesign option enabled. the buttons on the menu bar are greyed out, and when I right click on the shape smart design is not one of the options to select??
Am I going crazy, or am I doing something incorrectly?
I hope someone can help me quickly.
Tracey
Stefan,
Well it seems to be working now. No idea what fixed it. Yes, I checked all the ways to access smartdesign - none of them worked! So perhaps I am crazy! Perhaps to coin the often abused helpdesk phrase "a reboot will fix it"...worked?
Michael - this is using Aris Express. The problem was in all models, which was why I was sooo frustrated.
Not to worry. its not an issue "at this particular point in time".
Hi Daniel,
In some situations it is normal that both SmartDesign buttons are grayed out.
If you select more that one elemnt in model then SmartDesign will be grayed-out.
Tips:
You can "Insert SmartDesign" only if nothing is selected.
You can "Edit SmartDesign" only if exactly one object is selected
If your SmartDesign buttons are grayed-out all the time then i will need more iformation.
Are you using ARIS Express 2.0 or some older version?
Do you have this problem in all model types?
Is it grayed-out all the time?
The ability to use SmartDesign in BPMN would be invaluable. This is a feature I love about another modeling program that I use as well. While I understand the point that SmartDesign is of limited use for an overall complex process, but it would be a great value to define the ST (straight-through) process first and have the major steps (with in/output docs, systems, etc.), pools, and swim lanes auto-generated.
In my opinion, the lack of SmartDesign in initial BPMN mapping is the only major feature preventing Aris Epress from being the dominant modeling program in the larger BPMN community--which means that Software AG is missing out on prospects who go with other modeling programs.
Thoughts?
