Does ARIS Express provide syntax check functionality?

I've just created an EPC with an event which triggers an XOR rule resulting in two functions.

In my understanding events are not allowed to make decisions.

Or is that modeling function permitted deliberately giving one-time or first-time users the chance to model a process without being "limited" by restrictive syntax normally understood by EPC experts only?

Best regards

Hi! Of course, events are not allowed to make decisions.

But you can get next situation (see figure), so ARIS can not to ‘catch’ a situation during modelling, when you delete one of the event, for example (then you are really get methodological mistake).

So, to check this mistake you can use standard semantic check script, Structure rules for process models

Hi Alex,

check scripts in Express? I understood that Express is a vanilla plain tool for rapid visualization. Where do I find functions such as check scripts? I do not find them in the menu bar. Or will they be delivered in a later version?

Isn't that a contradiction to the objective to deliver a very lean modeling tool?

My interpretation of your answer is that Express will not have any method checks incorporated, does it?

Hi Tilman,

ARIS Express has no syntax checks builtin. I think Alex was referring to the professional tools of ARIS Platform.

Sebastian

ooops... I didn’t look on topic group. I am sorry!

Of course, Express has no scripts. Sorry once more

Hello Sebastian, Hi Alexander,

fine, got it.

Does it mean that Express has not syntax checks programmed at all? Meaning you can design whatever you want (on purpose)?

A possibility would be to have some basic checks incorporated (without running any scripts at the push of button) to guarantee at least some fundamental model principles. Or has that been left out on purpose?

Hi Tilman,

ARIS Express has the built-in ARIS method. That means, not all connections between objects are allowed, but only meaningful relationships. Still, it is possible to make mistakes, which can't be catched by the ARIS method itself. In that case, you would need some real semantic checks, which are not part of ARIS Express, but only of our professional offerings.

Regards,

Sebastian
