hello everyone,
I have a simple, general question but could find any informations so far:
- What are the exact differences between ARIS 7.1, ARIS 9.7 and ARIS Connect ? Also:
- Do i need a ARIS-Connect server when i want to use Social collaboration of ARIS 9.7?
- Can i use ARIS 9.7 without a ARIS-Connect Server?
Thanks for the help
Timo
The difference is too large to explain. 7.1 is not supported anymore, and replaced by ARIS 9 completely.
For the server; there are 2 kinds:
- Connect server; here you can use collaboration, Connect and Design features
- Design server; this is more the 'old-fashioned' way of working without Connect, Collaboration
So Yes, you need the Connect server

Ronald
Hello Timo,
regarding your last question "without the Connect Server". There are 2 answers:
a) Yes, with the Design Server. That is the normal upgrade path with your maintenance contract. Then you don't have the collaboration and portal and HTML 5 browser client features of ARIS Connect. For publishing you might want to use the ARIS 9 Publisher, which is the successor of the ARIS 7.x Business Publisher. This is the way to go for customers which have Business Publisher and especially if they invested in customizations of Business Publisher and the collaboration features are not deemed important enough. Since you seem to be very interested in the collaboration, Connect would be the way to go. (Of course you may choose to follow both paths.)
b) Yes, with ARIS 9 Architect there is the option of the LOCAL Server installation, just as in ARIS 7. However please observe, that this scenario is only useful, if you are the only one creating and consuming your data. And the Hardware requirements are quite demanding, since you would have a complete Design Server instance running locally.
