I have seen a few posts specifically mention 'Role' as a symbol, not just a modeling concept (http://www.ariscommunity.com/users/nayabsiddiqui/2010-06-18-assignment-roles-or-person-type). Am I confused? I don't have a Role symbol (except for a probably non-germane green rectangle with API name 'ST_SOLAR_ROLE'; it doesn't show in any EPC or Organization chart) in my local database. I am looking at the server configuration, and this isn't any omission based on whatever filter I am using. Oddly, one ARIS user group in my company added a user-defined symbol 'Role', based on Person Type. Is 'Role' an ARIS symbol out-of-the-box, or not? If not, should I use 'Person Type' to represent a role, such as 'Invoice Approver', which may be played by many different position types, different people, etc. Current version: ARIS IT Architect 7.1.0.4. Thanks for all the great input.

You are right, either you customize your ARIS Method and new symbol "Role" on top of "Person Type" or "Position" Symbol or use existing symbols such as "Person Type" or "Position". Out-of-box ARIS does not comes with any Role symbol or object type.

As Adnan says, you are basically looking for "Person Type". If you prefer the term "Role", just rename the symbol.
