In his article, Nickols describes the basics of strategy and definitions according to famous authors like Mintzberg or Porter. As there is no common definition for strategy, it is fascinating to read how seven famous authors define strategy and challenges related to strategy.

I agree that it is quite important to bring as much guidance to strategy definition and implementation as it is possible. That's why I am proud that we support the Business Model Canvas (BMC) and Balanced Scorecard (BSC) with ARIS Business Strategy.
In the next Service Release, we will provide some new examples of our UMG demo database that show you exactly how to link the BSC oder BMC to your business architecture and how you can plan business transformation (e.g. different scenarios) of your architecture.
I really much like your idea of having business services in between business strategy and business processes. But how would you link that in practice? Thanks for sharing your ideas!

With strategy not clearly defined, it is from my perspective, even more important to support common "strategic frameworks" like the Business Canvas and Balanced Score Cards with ARIS. This give the clients the freedom to define their understanding of strategy.
I would like to see thoughts on how "standards" like BSC/Business Canvas/.... can be linked to the business architecture, especially business process reference models like APQC/SCOR/eTom/ ... that sometime include KPIs/PPIs.
Between business processes and IT the concept of SOA/service can be used to link business with IT. Can a concept like business services, that are implemented by business processes, be linked to the business strategy components/element?
