Hello all,

I'm student at the Leipzig university and share a project in cooperation with SoftwareAG/IDS Scheer. Unfortunately i got an error when I tried to install Aris under Linux.

I downloaded the following ISO cd from Aris web site:

  • ARIS710_452596_DVD.iso

After that i started the installation procedure on my terminal:

brakasa@brakasa-laptop ~/Desktop/UNI/ARIS $ ls
install_ARIS_71.452596.sh
brakasa@brakasa-laptop ~/Desktop/UNI/ARIS $ sudo sh install_ARIS_71.452596.sh
[sudo] password for brakasa:
Error: "gtar" is required for installation.

GNU tar is installed on my linux system:

brakasa-laptop Desktop # tar --version
tar (GNU tar) 1.23
Copyright © 2010 Free Software Foundation, Inc.

I created an alias with the following comand:

brakasa@brakasa-laptop ~/Desktop/UNI/ARIS $ alias gtar=tar

and tried again to install, but not successfully and got the same error:

Error: "gtar" is required for installation.

What I need to do, to get running the executlables on my linux box?

My System:

  • Linux Mint 7 Release 7 (Gloria) -Derivate von Ubuntu
  • Kernel Linux 2.6.28.11 Generic
  • GNOME 2.26

Best Regards,

Felipe

I solved the problem with following comands:

brakasa-laptop Desktop # cd /usr/local/bin/
brakasa-laptop bin # ln -sv $(which tar) gtar
`gtar' -> `/usr/local/bin/tar'
brakasa-laptop bin # PATH=$PATH:. sh /home/brakasa/Desktop/install_ARIS_71.452596.sh
installing to folder: /home/brakasa/Desktop/ARIS7.1/JavaClient.452596
.
.
..

I started and serialized the Aris B.A. 7.1. But now i want to crate a local DB and cant find it anywhere....

What I need to do, to create a local DB with ARIS B.A 7.1 on my linux box?

ABA is not supported on Linux. When you have a look at the installation manual, you will see that ARIS Bus Server and a "thin" ABA on the same server is possible (only Red Hat). However the "client on Linux" paragraph speaks explicitily about "no local database".

You can run ARIS Express on Ubuntu (that's what I did on my netbook), but this is also not officially supported.

You are right. I tried to install without the installation manual, next time i will read first and than ask ;)

Aris Express i have already installed and use it for six month on my Linux box. Very useful tool!!!

Thank you,

Felipe
