Hi,

I have the following question:

We have a potential customer that would be interested in transfering processes from Visio into ARIS. I was informed in PW that was held in Munich that Visio to ARIS integration will be available soon. Do you have any idea when this functionality will be released?

Thanks,

Augustina

Hi Augustina,

yes, this is planned. But I really do not want to give you a specific date.

You know... the modeling data in Visio is by far not that structured like it is in ARIS. Therefore, we need to think about the way how to make it possible by the user to configure that import.

Sure, some basic imports, like EPC in Visio to ARIS will be supported.

But I'm sure: as soon as your customers see how easy, nice and fast it is in ARIS to model data, they will never think about Visio again ;-)

Bye,

Frank

Augustina,

I have researched Visio-to-Aris several times and there are a couple of different options available.

With all of the potential solutions we identified that there would still be many 'touches' required to the ARIS result.  Through several projects (4 models ->50 models) that all originated in Visio we always chose to manually reinput into ARIS.  This allowed us to ensure high quality input and for example attribute maintenance, instead of having to go back and fix everything.

There may be developments on this coming or that have occured in the past year, but ARIS input is so easy if you have high quality source material that I will opt for reinput until significant improvements are made.  As info, I do not think the impovements will ever be significant enough fo rme to expect an error-free import.

I look forward to ARIS express as a tool to distribute to a larger user community, hopefully eliminating Visio in by unit.

Good luck

donald

I definitely agree with you.

ARIS methodology is different from Visio and for this reason manual intervention is always needed. However, when a customer has a thousand of models in Visio it sounds better for him to have a semi-automatic procedure for transferring them to ARIS than developing all models in ARIS from scratch.

Thanks a lot for your comments.

We hired 4 college interns to convert 500 Visio's to ARIS.  Took about 2.5 hours on average per Visio, including training and ramp-up time.

Had great success!

Mike

PS:  We looked into a conversion tool also and found that manually converting in the end was a better solution.
