Using Oracle OBPA to do information architecture modeling?

the Oracle BPA Suite contains the most of the ARIS method parts which is also contained in ARIS Business Architect/Designer. But our special method from ARIS IT Architect is not part. But it is possible to enrich the OBPA installation with ARIS IT Architect/Designer licenses and to work with OBPA and ARIS functionality on the same modeling content.

First, I assume that you mean the Information Architecture that is another name for Data Architecture. In many areas Information Architecture has become another term for User Interface design.

Yes, Oracle BPA contains the model types that are necessary to build a complete Information Architecture. You will need to investigate beyond the default filter that is used with BPA. Try right-clicking on a database in BPA and selecting the Entire Method filter. Then select a group (folder) and right-click and select New -> Model when the dialog pops up make sure that the Data check box is the only one selected. You will then see the majority of the data related models available in BPA. You can look under Method Help on the Help menu and these is also some information available in the Method Manual which you can find on the Windows Start menu wherever BPA was installed. Unfortunately there is not a lot of documentation available on documenting Information Architecture in BPA.

You can always post questions here. There are many here (including myself) who have documented Information Architectures in ARIS or BPA.

Thanks for your info and the steps indicated. You are right that I am looking at the data architecture, I reckon I have to do my hands-on for the next few days to have a better understanding of the tools. My main role is actually IT governance but my boss has asked me to assist a colleague in the area of IA. What I am really interested is to develop IA with control objectives so that a process is continuously audited or 'built-in audit' . With so many compliance policies, the old ways of setting up a project to manage compliance is not resource viable. Hence when we design our processes, we want control objectives to be part of the process 'DNA'. Thanks for your help and I hope I have something to share eventually for the community.
