Yesterday, I announced that you can now upload ARIS Express models to ARIS Community. Today, I want to share with you a short description how to do that.

ARIS Express models are not ordinary images. Therefore, you can't use the "embed image" button while editing an article or comment. Unfortunately, it is a little bit more complicated and there is also a single limitation: You can't embed an ARIS Express model in a comment, but you always have to create a new article.

If you have already posted your question or discussion to ARIS Community, the handling should be not new to you. First, you have to be signed in to ARIS Community. You can't post anything on the page as anonymous user. Second, you have to press the "Upload" button on the right sidebar. The button is also shown here on the left. You won't see this button if you are not signed in to the page.

After pressing the "Upload" button, a small assistant will guide you through the process of creating a new article. In the first step, you have to select the article type you want to create. Currently, you have the following choices:

  • upload ARIS Express model
  • create an article
  • announce an event
  • start a discussion
  • create a poll

Of course you have to select the first point: Uploading a new ARIS Express model. The belonging button is shown here on the left. In the second step of the assistant, you will have to select the group where your model should appear in. You might not see this step if you were already on a group page while clicking the "Upload" button.

Finally, you get to a form, where you fill in all the necessary details of your article such as title, body text, and of course ADF file to share. The form will look similar for all the different article types, but there are small differences. For example, in case of an article sharing an ARIS Express file you will find a control to upload your ADF file.

After you have filled in the form, hit the "Preview" button at the bottom of the form. If everything looks fine, submit the new article by pressing the "Save" button. Your ARIS Express model is now shared with everyone who has access to the group where you posted in.

I am using ARIS Express to enhance school Safety and Security, and I have entered an audit process in it.   I also am putting in some School Plans for their use as Shelters in a Disaster.  I also have  these in the Professional ARIS version, and I hope to sinc this up as theupload from ARIS Express to ARIS Professional becomes available.  Hopefully I will be able to upload one of these models for the contest.
