Question: How can I change by default the font color of a specific type of object?

As we're running the same version of ARIS, I tested this on our system and it seems to work fine.

So first, I assume you created the 'white' font under the 'Configuration' database 'Font formats' folder. (This enables you to choose the this font when in the 'Template' view.)

If the new font has indeed been created this way, perhaps it is a small error that, when creating the 'white' font that the color of the font was NOT actually changed to 'white?'

Please don't take it as an insult as this purely based on the way I do things.......it's FUN being me some days :-)

I'm not the kind of guy who gets insulted that easily. Being a physicist I'm (almost by definition) a bit crazy.

I checked and doublechecked several times and the color is actually white. So there must be another thing that's not the way it should be.

Could it be possible that by defining font formats on the "database" level (where there is a default font) these formats overrule the font formats defined in the "configuration" level?

I found it!

1. First I created a font White on the configuration level, and attributed this white font to the object type in the template we use.
2. Then I drew an object in a model that should be using this white font. It still came out black.
3. Then I noticed that within the list of available font formats, a font called "Untitled" appeared.
4. So I went into the fonts of the database level and adapted the color of this untitled font to white and changed it's name.

Now apparently every new object of the same type comes out white.

So in summary I have to create and configure a font in the configuration level AND configure the font in the database level that appears when using the font in the configuration level. (Still comprehensible?)

Great! I certainly didn't  have any of that when I tried it so, way to hang in there! (Whenever I train ARIS modelers I ask them to adopt an ARIS motto that says "Never give up!!!" You have proven that I am not misleading them......)

did you check with IDS support whether this behaviour is intended? I expected that ARIS (IDS) would help administratorsto to spare redundant efforts like your step 4.  

we have not had exactly your problem, but I found configuring and applying templates being still a "dark art" (even for a trained alchemist). As a result the number of our font format entries per database grows rapidly.  How do you cope with that?

Since I solved our problem with the rather complicated method once and for all, I did not contact IDS support for that.

Afterwards I wandered if the step four was perhaps necessary because of the use of different languages on the configuration level (English (American)) and on the database level (Dutch (Belgian) and French (Belgian)).

As for the number of format entries, I have the impression that whenever a designer changes the format of an object with character formatting, a new (untitled) format is created. So the simplest solution is to block character formatting and define some standard fonts which can than be applied through the drop down menu of font formats.

So in order to keep control over the system you need to limit the possibilities of your designers, the same as for the template, filter, etc. A solid convention should do the trick.
