Debugging business rules in a multi-user environment

Reading the latest newsletters and factsheets about business rules management systems (BRMS), I'm struck by the strong emphasis on the ability to model rules in teams. For experienced ARIS users, of course, that isn't exactly new... Right from the start, the ability to have a team designing processes was a key requirement for us. In fact, a database supporting joint modeling and the corresponding access rights was a feature of the very first version of ARIS.

SAP User Group Days in The Netherlands: BPM is HOT!

On April 16 and 17 the SAP User Group Days were held in Maastricht, The Netherlands. It was a great event. There were more than 2000 Dutch participants. Angelique de Vries, MD of SAP The Netherlands, started with a key note where she presented Business Process Management as one of the three main topics for companies today. Later in the morning Mr. Lazaridis of SAP AG, explained in detail the SAP BPM Roadmap and the positioning of SAP NetWeaver BPM and ARIS. He stated that companies need ARIS to understand how the organization runs, by modeling end-to-end processes.

    Meetings of the ARIS Minds!

The United States and Canada are roughly 2,500 miles (4,000 km) from coast to coast and have a population of just over 330 million people. Getting ARIS users together in one spot at one time is challenging to accomplish during strong economic times, and even more challenging during today's recession. By mid-2008, the economic downturn began to really affect the US market, so IDS Scheer began a new approach for getting users together – including the launch of a N.

BPM Babylonia – Comparing BPA and BPMS is like comparing apples and oranges

Recently, Terry Schurter described the BPM State of the Nation 2009. Terry touched an interesting subject – the disparity between BPM definitions in the marketplace, especially where it concerns BPM software. The BPM software market is very diffuse, a phenomenon which I encounter almost daily in my line of work when talking to prospects or customers.

SOA specification driven by an MDA approach in ARIS

Today, I'd like to tell you about an interesting customer project handled by IDS Scheer, in which an MDA approach based on ARIS was used to generate an SOA specification in a top-down manner.

What are the "Process" People Doing at the Gartner BI Conference?

This was a question asked by many conference attendees who stopped at the IDS Scheer booth, staring at our graphics with a puzzled look on their faces. The press did the same – they came to the conference to cover the latest news from BI vendors and to their surprise, they found a BPM vendor there. Needless to say, IDS Scheer raised some eyebrows and provoked a new way of looking at BI – through the lenses of PROCESS.

BPM projects and BPM platform ; Enterprise BPM framework

Companies start many independent projects (e.g. Balanced Score Cards, Corporate Process Model, Six Sigma) with limited BPM alignment. The BPM framework, introduced in my previous blog post, can help you in creating an aligned BPM project portfolio. The BPM framework can also help you to define a BPM platform in which BPM deliverables of the different projects can be reused within other projects. Experience shows that the BPM journey has 2 phases:

    Impressions from CeBIT 2009

True, CeBIT 2009 was not really crowded but every booth or hallway faced the danger of total break down when "Arnie" Schwarzenegger made his tour of CeBIT together with Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel. People running behind him and pushing others to get at least a glimpse of the "Terminator" showed he still is a superstar...
