EBPM 101 - A primer on Enterprise Business Process Management

This year at CeBit, we had a lot of interesting topics to present. Clearly, the most frequented areas at our booth were the workstations where we demonstrated and explained our new Enterprise Business Process Management positioning and one of the key concepts of our new combined offering, called Model-to-Execute. This article is the first in a series that we are going to publish over the coming weeks. We’ll start off with an overview of EBPM and Model-to-Execute and subsequent articles will drill down further into different aspects.

    Getting the Most from simulation

This post is aimed at helping users and potential users of simulation make good use of the software. There is plenty of advice and guidance that can be offered, particularly to people new to simulation, clearly this post only scratches the surface. The content here is also largely independent of software, so it does not refer directly to functionality within ARIS Business Simulator. Business Value

#RiskTalk: The decade of residual risk!?

Talking about risk management is currently impossible. Not talking about risk management as well! In a year where we have seen shortly after the financial crisis the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and in a years span the earthquake leading to tsunami leading to Fukushima - in such a year talking rationally about risk and risk management feels cynical. Not forgetting the not less important events in the middle east and northern Africa.

What's Your Process Intelligence Quotient? (aka we are what we measure)

I come from the Semiconductor industry. Talk about a group that needs to measure nearly *everything*… Every time I talk with high tech companies, I’m amazed at their ability to come up with meaningful metrics to explain and track all parts of their business, from Moore’s Law to the trends monitored in Tashiro Charts. Which makes this corollary to Matt Green’s post on February 14 th all the more puzzling.

How to embed an ARIS Community model into your page

On ARIS Community, you can share your ARIS Express files by uploading it. Your model is directly embedded in your post and other people can use the interactive model viewer to view and zoom your model. They can leave comments and you can alter the model to incorporate their thoughts. You can also embed a model available on ARIS Community in your personal page like a blog or homepage. Process cost calculation methods

While my last article explained how to determine your process costs and times by means of ARIS scripts, I will now provide information on how to obtain an exact calculation of the process costs by using ARIS Business Optimizer. The problem that needs to be solved for every process is to find out what are the individual cost items and to determine the amount of costs for the functions and cost centers. ARIS Business Optimizer provides a rules set that you can use to this effect.

Is BPM just a bunch of projects?

When I started to delve into the ARIS world some years ago, I was surprised that it is very common to have several ARIS databases. This came as a surprise, because I always thought the main idea of all this modelling effort is to create a unified enterprise model stored in a single repository. Still, many customers use different databases to document different domains like sales and product processes.
