    I saw the future

Yesterday, we had a special day here at ARIS product development. For a full-day workshop, all developers and development managers of our modelling products met to present the latest features. Additional units dialled in, because we also have development offices all over Europe, not just in Saarbrücken, Germany. There are some strict rules for this workshop: First, number of Powerpoint slides must be reduced to an absolute minimum. Second, only those features are allowed to be demonstrated, which are not yet shipped to any customer.

The fig leaf risk management gets under scrutiny due to the financial crisis

Happy new year Risk Management! Unfortunately for that the old Chinese saying "May you live in interesting times!" comes true in 2010. We already noticed a lot less pressure on the GRC market than on other segments during 2009 what satisfyingly lead to positive results for that solution. But obviously not only compliance topics that are demanded by regulators are still seen as business critical but also the risk management approaches of the companies get more and more under scrutiny.

BPM 2010: Call for Industry Contributions

Dear ARIS community members, Business Process Management has attracted a significant amount of applied research that significantly influenced the direction of BPM. Examples for this influence can be found, among others, in the areas of BPM maturity models, process modelling notations (eg EPC, BPMN) and process execution. The most significant gathering of the BPM community that is dedicated to reflecting on and extending the BPM body of knowledge is the international BPM conference.

Is there any place for services in (enterprise) architecture domains?

Couple of months ago I invited you to review 10 different definitions of the term “Enterprise Architecture”. While the current leader is the definition of Gartner Group (which is one of my favorites too), it still gives a pretty high-level introduction to the term. How should the created key principles and models be structured? So that they can be efficiently communicated to support better decision making on enterprise´s change?

Is modelling like writing love letters?

TechCrunch is currently reporting that the social network site BeautifulPeople.com has kicked out 5.000 members, because they gained too much weight over Christmas. That got me thinking if we should also kick out ARIS Community members if we notice they make a syntactical mistake while modelling a process model?!

Let's celebrate: ARIS Community welcomes 20,000th member!

I almost can´t believe it but today ARIS Community can welcome the 20,000th member! Since the launch in May 2009 you created 31 groups, 1673 posts, 3542 comments and discussed many BPM relevant subjects. 2000 people access the platform daily and 100 ARIS Express models have already been uploaded. Also, 15 Wallpapers were published, iPods were raffled and BPM addicts all over the world are networking busily. We also had one proposal of marriage. ;-)

    Make a wish!

It is Christmas time! Back then, when I was a child, my parents asked me for my Christmas wish. One of the bad things about growing up is that nobody is asking you for your wish anymore and you have to find an excuse on your own to buy this fancy new geek device...

    Getting real about BPM

Some weeks ago, my fellow colleague Roland ( @rolandwoldt) pointed me to the book “Getting Real” written by the well-known web design company 37signals. The book talks about their approach to manage web development projects. In that context, getting real means:
