It is ARIS UserDay 2009. There are some obvious signs in the office building. One most employees will spot is that some of the usual parking lots are now reserved for customers. Normally, that shouldn't bother me, because I'm going to work by bicycle, but today I decided to take the car, too. So where should I put it?

BPM is coming home! Tomorrow, the 2 day event ARIS UserDay 2009 starts and BPM minds meet in Saarbrücken, Germany at the headquarter of IDS Scheer. The event consists of customer presentations, hands-on sessions, product presentations and discussions.

It was a tough race against our counter. Since more than 150 days this counter was running down to the final release date of ARIS Express. And it was publically visible all the time! We almost made it on time, just one hour late ;-)

ARIS UserDay 09 will start on September 22 at IDS Scheer headquarters in Saarbrücken (Germany). Today is a big day for us, because we just released a new and important feature here in ARIS Community. As of today, you can upload and share your BPM models with everyone. Just create a model in ARIS Express, save the file, and upload it to ARIS Community. To have a running example, see the model on the left. The model shows the structure of the German government as of today. There is also a link added to each person to get further information. For example, select Germany's chancellor Angela Merkel and press F7 key.

Implementing an SOA often proves difficult in practice and, ultimately, it’s not possible to deliver on all the promises associated with the subject. Failing to close the gap between operational and IT departments is one of the most common problems encountered, with the service-oriented application landscape not being fully aligned with the organization’s business processes.

In little more than three years, Twitter, the free, real-time, short-messaging service (up to 140 characters, so called tweets), has become one of the dominant communication tools in an increasingly Internet-dependent world. Like other social networking tools, it has quickly monopolised a specific form of interaction, in this case micro-blogging.

With 92 percent, a clear majority of the respondents of the survey believes that EA should be determined by the vision, strategy and objectives of the company. Yet, only 40 percent of them actually included objectives and policies in their EA program. The alignment of business and IT is seen as the most important argument for organizations to start using EA. At the same time, connecting IT architecture and business elements, and arriving at important decisions about structure and layout on that basis, is found to be one of the biggest problems confronting businesses.

Developing a solution to get from ARIS models to execution took some years and last week I presented some episodes from this time. As an example, I looked specifically at the development of Oracle BPA Suite, which includes an OEM version of different ARIS Platform products. Today, I want to give you some details about Oracle BPA Suite.

Last week we conducted the first part of ARIS Express beta test. We released the beta version to more than 700 registered beta testers. More than 60% of the registered beta testers already gave ARIS Express a test drive and reported the issues they found. To all beta testers: Thank you for your contribution!

Today, ARIS is used by many partners to enhance their offerings. Getting to a state where every major middleware vendor is using and recommending ARIS, was a long way to go. Today, I like to share with you the history behind Oracle BPA Suite, which is an OEM version of ARIS sold by Oracle. In 2004, the ARIS Implementation Platform consisted of only two parts: ARIS for mySAP and P2A (Processes2Applications) approach. The latter mainly referred to ARIS UML Designer and business process based software engineering.
