    Attribute type groups

Attribute type groups can be used in ARIS to group ERM attributes (see Figure 1). The connection type is: ERM attribute belongs to attribute type group. Attribute type groups can be assigned only to entity types and relationship types. The connection types are:

    eERM attribute allocation diagram

The eERM attribute allocation diagram plays a special role: it cannot be used to model data structures in terms of relationships between entity types. Its purpose is to assign attributes to the structural elements (entity types and relationship types, if available) and thus to reduce the complexity of ER models. An eERM attribute allocation diagram is assigned to exactly one entity type (or relationship type). The assignment relation I recommend to insert the respective object as an occurrence copy in the model and to use the object name as model name, too.

TOP features of ARIS 9: Central user and license management

You probably already saw the new ARIS UI and symbols set that was described in last week’s blogpost by Nina. Furthermore, any ARIS 9 server installation now includes a Central User and License Management Component (UMC) as well as an ARIS Document Storage (ADS) capability. Now, what does that mean? In ARIS 9 there is one single space that:

    Generalization/Specialization

Generalization/specialization - aka “is-a relationship” – is typically used to represent hierarchical associations between entity types. The subordinated (“specialized”) entity type is a subset of the superior (“generalized“) entity type; it inherits the attributes and relationship types of the “generalized“ entity type. A specialized entity type, however, may have attributes and relationship types of its own.

    Entity type

Entity types are the core modeling constructs in an ER model. They represent real or abstract things or concepts and cannot be detailed by other entity types or relationship types. But, entity types are related to other entity types (via relationship types) and they have attributes which represent their properties (see: eERM attribute allocation diagram). Entity types are represented by rectangles (see Figure 1).
